Chapter 16

Cebella

Kiara cheered at the news that she had won over her friend, quickly explaining that all she needed to do was sign a NDA and they would be all set.

Stephanie blanched at the news.

“You could have mentioned that part before,” she whined.

"It's just a formality," Kiara insisted as she pushed Stephanie toward the shower. "For high profile clients like this, there is a certain expectation of professional anonymity. Elsie likes to say that the oldest profession isn't the business of fucking. It's the business of keeping secrets," she waggled her eyebrows. "Yours and everyone else's."

Stephanie knew that her friend was sugar coating the situation to keep her from backing out, which she was still tempted to do when they walked through the office doors a couple of hours later. Over a dozen young women milled around the gaudy interior of Elsie's Eclectic Delights. There were a couple of familiar faces, girls who had occasionally come over to party with Kiara. But many wore anxious expressions which matched Stephanie’s.

Her first thought was that it reminded her of another fucking audition.

Except, instead of a camera test with a bored looking director, Stephanie was faced with a small team of lawyers armed with the non-disclosure agreements for all the newcomers to sign. They herded the girls up like livestock and lead them a few at a time into the small, windowless conference room to explain, in disturbingly blunt terms, the consequences of breaking the terms of the contract.

Elsie Maier emerged from her private office not long after the last of the contracts had been signed. She wore a silk blouse and a long, fitted skirt that clung to her bony knees and flared out again near her ankles. A blonde wig was piled high on her head, with a few ringlets of curls falling around her stooped shoulders.

"Alright ladies, come...ground rules for this evening," she clapped to get everyone's attention. The chunky rings adorning her fingers gave metallic clinks as they banged together. "As I believe everyone has been apprised, we have a new, high-profile client potentially looking for a companion." With pale cheeks and her collagen-enhanced lips thickly coated in lipstick, Elsie looked oddly like a vampire in the florescent light. "You will all be paid a flat rate for attending the party this evening. Dress well. Your appearance will reflect on this agency, regardless of how little time you spend in my employ. Clear?"

Many of the girls shifted uncomfortably.

"Now, remember that your real identities are a valuable commodity, particularly if you plan on a future in the industry. So tonight, consider simply be whoever you want. Call it an acting exercise. Invent a character and inhabit her body for the evening. Then, when the job is over, simply discard her...along with any memories she might carry with her in keeping with the terms of your contracts," Elsie's watery eyes regarded them with a surprisingly laser-like focus. “The money will remain, of course, provided that you do. And, after all, that's the reason we're all here in the first place.
